Hey, Carsie! We talked a bit on FB about this blog last week (when I shared it to Vienna Teng's wall & she weighed in on it). You said the policy was working well in terms of what people will voluntarily pay. Now that you've just finished a really successful release mini-tour of 4 sell-outs and a packed room at Rockwood last night (is it possible to sell out there? they'd just push 1 more in the door, lol) I'm wondering if the policy is continuing to work well, and in particular are people willing to pay more for a brand new release? I sure hope so. BTW you've got the accompanying sales pitch down pat, for sure. Once again great to see you last night; going to make the effort to get out to Jersey for your opener for Red Molly at Outpost. Catch you later!

Super music and the philosophy is interesting. Music is worth different things to different people to be sure. I don't pay for downloads yet but I have swapped $ for your CD. I do wonder: "the faulty premise...that a song could be bought or sold" so it follows that if I copied your tracks, and DID manage to turn around and sell them for my profit...since you you don't acknowledge them having any material value, that would be perfectly fine with you?

Congrats on the rave in the Post; so often they, Rolling Stone, etc. will glowingly quote lyrics & they'll flop like lumps of clay....(gotta run with that image): in notable (pun intended) contrast, yours gleam like cloisonne (or what have you). Seriously. Hope you swing by Jammin' Java soon. Or even Wolf Trap (Barns or Filene). Best, John

I don't know if Bob Dylan originated his approach to the song as much as he continued in the path that Woody Gutherie had been moving for years, probably becoming his greatest influence.

Brilliant essay about what's really important about art and the artist. As a writer, I confirm the infinite bounty of the muse, and the alarmingly simple, primitive, life-or-death requirement of persistence. The two feed upon each other as the artist's talent matures.
